Urban Toronto Wedding Overlooking the City Skyline
I love a good urban wedding to feed my creative soul. Carly & Mark’s rooftop wedding at Toronto’s Thompson Hotel was a dream. The clouds hanging low on the city skyline threatened rain from dawn till dusk. Thank goodness the rain never came. The overcast sky left us with some of the wonderfully moody tones that I love so much. As a venue, the Thompson Hotel is an amazing location to work in. The natural light and reflective services are everywhere, as you’ll see in many of the images. It was fun playing with the reflections to help document the day. I think this wedding is definitely one of my favourites from 2016 maybe even an all time favourite.
Carly & Mark’s wedding day was a relaxed one start to finish. It was filled with a first look on the Thompson Hotel’s rooftop terrace, per-ceremony drinks next door at Colette’s followed by the perfect ceremony overlooking the cloudy skyline. During the cocktail reception we were serenaded with soulful sounds of Mattie Leon & band. Also, the KIDS! Carly & Mark had two brand new nieces and a nephew that stole the show the entire day. There is nothing like an entertaining kid to make my heart swoon a little.
*Side note for photographers* This was the first wedding I photographed with my Canon Mark IV. I upgraded from the Mark III the day before. The Mark IV felt just like the Mark III in my hands. I loved the Mark III but wanted to upgrade because of the low light capabilities in the Mark IV. I was blown away by the capabilities of this camera. The entire day was shot using available light, even pushing the ISO to 10,000 during the reception.
