I’ll admit a backyard cottage wedding is without question my absolute favourite wedding venue. Brittany & James’ wedding reminded me of my own only theirs was much more of an intimate event. There is something so special about having all your most loved people together in a place you are so comfortable in. The family cottage in Kearney Ontario was the perfect wedding venue on the lake.
Brittany and James helping each other get ready will stay with me forever. A wedding day tends to fly by and taking just fifteen minutes together is so memorable. They were so sweet. James helping Brittany into her dress, awkwardly doing up her shoes, his suit jacket hanging from the four-poster bed & both of them laughing in realization that they’ve never actually dressed each other before.
Then there was the lull between everyone being ready, all the setup is in place and the anticipation of waiting for the guests to arrive. We took the opportunity to step out onto the balcony that overlooks the lake and take a few portraits before the ceremony began.
Their vows were said with the forest as their backdrop while their nephew hide behind the woodpile ready with confetti. They spent their cocktail hour catching up with close friends and family, and the entire day was spent outside. After a catered dinner everyone did a quick change into cozy cottage attire to dance under the stars and take the periodic break to sit around the campfire on the beach.
The most important traditions to Brittany and James were to eat, drink and dance with those they loved most. It was a true celebration full of relaxation and love.
